I’m Glenn Crooks. I’m a broadcaster, journalist, podcast host, and soccer coach. Welcome to my official website!
The beautiful game of soccer has brought some unforgettable moments, fantastic experiences, and lasting friendships into my professional and personal life. My involvement in the sport spans nearly 50 years, ranging from the youth and college levels all the way to the pros. Today, the soccer world knows me as the national radio voice for Major League Soccer’s New York City FC, analyst for the Big Ten Network, host of The Coaching Academy on SiriusXM FC, the NYCFC Views weekly podcast and On Frame podcast.
I’ve called NYCFC’s matches since their inaugural MLS season in 2015. I co-host NYCFC Views, a weekly soccer podcast that is New York City centric also diagnose playing tactics and systems plus chatting with players, coaches, executives and journalists in American soccer on the On Frame podcast. Both podcasts available on TuneIn, iTunes and Spotify. I’ve conducted over 1,200 interviews.
I hosted The Carli Lloyd Town Hall, a one-hour special with the 2015 World Cup MVP before a live studio audience on SiriusXM FC in New York City. The World Cup Now call-in program on SiriusXM FC ran pre and post-game for each of the USWNT’s 2015 and 2019 World Cup matches. In addition to speaking with listeners, I provided game analysis and conducted interviews. Every week, I host The Coaching Academy, a program that focuses on coaching education and player development. Before entering the broadcasting and media world I coached soccer full-time for over thirty years, the final fourteen “On the Banks of the Old Raritan” in Piscataway, New Jersey with Rutgers University.
As the head coach of the Rutgers University’s women’s soccer program, my staff and I led the Scarlet Knights to the BIG EAST Tournament every season and garnered seven NCAA Tournament bids, including two Sweet Sixteen appearances. I am proud to have coached a massively talented group of players for the Scarlet Knights and watched a number of them excel at the professional level including two-time World Cup winner, Olympic champion, and FIFA World Player of the Year Carli Lloyd, Olympic champion and former Canada international Jonelle Filigno.
Before Rutgers, I founded the women’s soccer programs at Long Island University - Brooklyn and St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey. First, I served as the head coach of the St. Peter’s Peahens from 1993 to 1996 where I received MAAC Coach of the Year honors in 1994. From there, I transitioned to LIU-Brooklyn where we secured the Northeast Conference Tournament Title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1999. The Blackbirds also stood out off the pitch as one of the most successful programs in the nation academically, ranking third in overall team GPA among Division I schools in 1999 and fourth in 1998.
I was fortunate to spend ten years at my alma mater, Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, New Jersey where I founded the interscholastic soccer program in 1983. In my ten years with the program, we won two state titles and tallied 140 wins. In 2013, I was inducted into the Ridge High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Today I continue to coach at the youth level with the Players Development Academy, one of the nation’s premier soccer programs. I’ve maintained close ties to the youth game and remain passionate about contributing to the development of young players in their formative years. In 2018, I was inducted into the New Jersey Youth Soccer Hall of Fame for my achievements with the NJYS Olympic Development Program (ODP), club soccer and collegiate soccer. I coached three national championship teams in 2007, 2010 and 2011 and earned six regional titles.
